Escape Academy 2 Red Herrings Locations & Turn-In

Red Herrings are hidden around the campus, with the Gardens and Arts Campus specifically identified by the developer as areas containing them. There are 50 to collect, and Herring is Caring requires handing all 50 to Cod Stewart. This guide covers those verified areas and the turn-in objective; it does not present an unchecked all-locations route as a finished checklist.

Understand the 50-fish objective

The recorded achievement information specifies handing 50 fish to Cod Stewart, and the hands-on review independently matches that collectible count. This makes the overall objective more specific than simply noticing fish during exploration. You are working toward a collection-and-turn-in requirement rather than a cash balance or a list of ordinary main-room puzzle objects.

Keep both parts of that wording in mind when considering completion: the collection target and the hand-in condition belong together. A page that only repeats the number without the recipient leaves out part of the documented goal. Conversely, a video showing a few pickups establishes that those objects exist without providing the full route required to reach the total.

Start with the Campus Gardens

Coin Crew Games' Campus Gardens devlog explicitly describes hidden fish in that area. This gives the Gardens a firm place on an evidence-based search list, rather than relying on a player guessing where the remaining collectibles might be. The post was published on August 7, 2026, as part of the developer's campus previews.

Use that area identification as a reason to inspect the Gardens during exploration, not as a claim about an exact number of fish there. The research does not provide a checked set of individual landmarks or approach directions for the whole area. A useful personal note should therefore distinguish a fish you actually collected from the general fact that the Gardens contain collectibles.

Continue with the Arts Campus

The August 21 Arts Campus devlog separately identifies Red Herrings among that area's pickups and activities. It is a second developer-confirmed area, not simply a repeat of the Gardens' location information. If you are organizing exploration by campus, those two named areas provide distinct places to review.

Treat the Arts Campus description as area-level guidance while using your own observed collection progress for individual fish. The post does not establish a complete set of hiding places or a fixed route through them. That distinction keeps the useful official pointer intact without turning a campus preview into a map it never supplied.

Keep Red Herrings separate from Escape Bucks

Red Herrings and Escape Bucks are different pickups, even though both can appear during campus exploration. The economy material describes Bucks as money used for purchases and services, while the collectible objective specifies fish handed to Cod Stewart. Finding one type should not be treated as automatic progress toward the other type's goal.

This matters when using review footage that mentions concealed money and fish in the same discussion. A sentence describing both does not make fish spendable currency or establish a cash reward for each pickup. Use the Escape Bucks guide for money and spending, and keep the fish checklist focused on actual collection and the documented hand-in objective.

Read the achievement condition accurately

Herring is Caring is the named achievement tied to delivering the full 50-fish collection. The recorded list and the hands-on count support that target, but they do not supply every hiding place. An achievement description tells you what completion requires; it is not itself a walkthrough for locating each object.

For achievement planning, record that objective alongside the other collectible, exploration and story goals described in the achievements guide. Do not confuse it with completing a single escape or purchasing a campus service. Those activities can share a location without satisfying the same condition, so keep their progress notes separate as you explore.

Use gameplay sightings for context

The June demo playthrough contains moments where the players announce finding fish, including references around 25:24 and 29:34. Those moments confirm collectible exploration in that version of the demo. Captions alone do not show enough camera position, approach direction or landmark detail to turn each announcement into a reproducible location entry.

The November review also describes concealed money and fish around campus, supplying broader exploration context rather than a numbered route. Use those references to recognize the activity while playing, then confirm any individual find against the actual environment. A complete guide needs that extra location detail, especially when multiple fish may be found within one broader area.

Build a useful personal collection record

For your own notes, write down the campus area and recognizable landmark when you collect a fish. Add the direction you approached from and a screenshot if you want to return to the same spot later. This is a practical way to distinguish a confirmed pickup from a vague memory of seeing a fish somewhere in a recording.

Keep notes for the Gardens and Arts Campus separate so a later revisit has a clear starting point. Recording actual observations is more useful than assigning invented numbers to unverified locations. The developer's area descriptions can organize that record, while only a fish you have located and collected should become a confirmed entry in it.

Distinguish an area lead from a collected location

An official post identifying fish in the Gardens is an area lead, while a screenshot and confirmed pickup identify an individual find. Keep those two forms of information separate in your notes so a general exploration suggestion does not become a completed checklist entry. This is particularly useful when returning to an area after spending time on story rooms or student activities.

A video caption announcing a fish can help you locate a relevant stretch of footage, but the announcement alone does not establish the approach or exact landmark. Compare the visible environment before recording that sighting as a reproducible location. The researched material deliberately stops at confirmed area information where those individual details are missing, rather than numbering guesses to reach the collection total.

Read the hand-in goal beside the pickup count

The achievement wording combines the complete collection with delivery to Cod Stewart, so preserve that recipient in your progress notes. A list that tracks only fish sightings can leave the actual turn-in condition out of view. Keeping the target, observed pickups and recipient as separate notes makes the documented goal easier to follow without assigning unverified intermediate rewards.

The same distinction applies when comparing collectibles with side quests and currency. A campus task may pay Bucks, while the fish objective has its own collection condition and named destination. Identify what your current objective requests before deciding whether to continue searching for fish, earn money or return to an escape-room guide for a separate story obstacle.

Connect collection with the rest of the campus

The sequel includes exploration and side activities between its named escape rooms, which is the setting in which Red Herrings appear. A fish search therefore belongs to your campus route rather than to every individual room solution. If your main difficulty is accessing or understanding a campus activity, the side-quest and walkthrough pages address those systems separately.

Return to this guide for the collectible target, the confirmed area leads and the recipient named in the achievement condition. Use the related economy page when the object on your screen is money rather than a fish. Keeping these intentions separate avoids a common collection-guide problem: mixing real area information with unsupported rewards or an invented all-50 route.
